Printer Troubleshooting Helper
Simple checks when your printer will not print, connect, or respond. Let's walk through it step by step.
Printers can be frustrating even for experienced users. Start with the simple checks first — most problems have simple solutions.
Check Power
Is the printer plugged in and turned on? Look for a power light. If it is off, press the power button.
Check Paper
Open the paper tray. Is there paper loaded? Is it jammed or stuck? Remove any jammed paper carefully.
Check Ink or Toner
Open the ink/toner area. Are cartridges installed correctly? Are they empty or dried out? Check for any warning lights.
Check for Error Lights
Look at the printer display or lights. Blinking or red lights usually mean something needs attention. Check the manual or look up the error code.
Check Wi-Fi or USB Connection
If wireless: is the printer on the same Wi-Fi network as your device? If USB: is the cable firmly connected at both ends?
Check Printer Queue
On your computer, go to printer settings and check for stuck print jobs. Clear the queue and try printing again.
Restart Everything
Turn off the printer, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on. Also restart your computer or phone.
Try Manufacturer App or Driver
Many printers work better with their manufacturer's app or updated driver. Check the manufacturer's website for your printer model.
